Its activities are mainly carried out in the Netherlands, Africa and Asia. Its aim is to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights throughout the world, specifically focussing on young people, women and vulnerable groups like the disabled or chronically ill. Rutgers supports partner organisations and professionals in their work, increasing their expertise on sexuality. Rutgers is a member of IPPF, the International Planned Parenthood Federation.
Within UAFC Joint Programme Rutgers has the lead on advocacy, linking and learning and communication, on both international and national level.
Rutgers focusses on:
- Increased political and financial support for female condoms from donor agencies and international organisations;
- Increased political and financial support for female condoms from governments in the Global South;
- Increased and improved involvement of large scale SRHR-implementing organisations.
Rutgers is the driving force behind the platform, and is a member of most of the international list serves and working groups on family planning, HIV prevention or female condom specific.
