With more choice and a better price, more people will be able to use a female condom they prefer. Because organisations, like UNFPA, USAID and big programmers like PSI, DKT, MSI and Ministries of Health, will be able to buy more female condoms for their budgets. And because everyone likes choice, the spaghetti sauce principle; with more quality assured female condom models, there will be more happy users.
The UAFC Joint Programme will address these availability and affordability barriers with the following strategies:
- Contribute to the availability of a mix of quality-assured female condom designs on the market
The UAFC supported functionality study done by Match, has resulted in the WHO prequalification of the CUPID female condom. It is expected that more condoms that passed the functionaility test in 2012, will be prequlaified by WHO. In 2013 the second functionality study started, first results expected in 2014.
- Achieve a sustainable competitive global pricing market
By collecting and analyzing the most recent information on the different manufacturers, UAFC is always aware on the latest development in the market. UAFC market intelligence is shared to contribute to a level playing field and allows governments, procurers and other interested people to work with the most recent information.
- Realize supply chain management in the UAFC target countries
UAFC offers quality supply chain management trainings (forecasting, quantifying, warehousing) for both programmers as governments. A proper supply chain is paramount for a successful female condom programme.
